  • Overview

    The Staff Accountant is responsible for month-end close, journal entries, reconciliations, analysis, and assisting in internal and external reporting.  The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in general accounting, is comfortable with the major financial statements and is interested in being developed.


    • Perform month-end closing activities and account reconciliations
    • Participate in analytics to provide monthly financial reporting data for the Controller
    • Assist in the completion of regulatory filings on a statutory accounting basis
    • Assist with premium tax return preparation
    • Provide support to accounting staff with issues related to accounting and financial reporting
    • Must have experience performing monthly account reconciliations
    • Must have experience preparing journal entries as needed, including intercompany entries
    • Special projects and other duties as assigned
    • Support compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley internal controls requirements, including updating documentation and policies as required
    • Provide support for the quarterly business reviews and quarterly/annual audits performed by internal and independent auditors


    • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
    • 2 – 3 years of experience in accounting / finance related role (life insurance accounting a plus)
    • Aptitude and willingness for learning new concepts and procedures
    • Advanced Excel skills: VLOOKUP, pivots, graphs, charts, data analysis, etc.
    • Performing monthly account reconciliations required
    • Preparing journal entries required as needed

    • Knowledge of GAAP and statutory accounting principles

    • Ability to interface with all levels within the corporation and affiliates
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills
    • Ability to work independently and multi-task to meet specific deadlines
    • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business related software systems
